Liposuction is a surgical technique to remove unwanted fat accumulations from clear localized areas of the body such as face, chin, neck, upper arm, body, the stomach, butt, hips, thighs, knees, calves and ankles. Liposuction is definitely not a general weight loss method. For the operation to be successful and lasting, it is required that the patient live a healthy life, with the right diet and regular physical exercise whatsoever.

Preparation for Liposuction

On the operation date, you should not eat and drink six hours before the surgery.

How is Liposuction performed?

Liposuction is made under light and local anesthesia. The operation takes between 1-2 hours depending on which areas are treated. The plastic surgeon puts 2-3 small incisions in the skin and then moves into the fatty tissue with a special probe. The probe in turn is connected to a vacuum hose that allows the fat to be sucked out. For every area that the fat is sucked tend to leave 2-3 scars that are about 0.5 cm high. Depending on the operation scale and number of areas; recovery ranges between 1 to 4 weeks.

Can Liposuction be done in several places at once?

It is possible to do Liposuction in several places at the same time. However to minimize complications, it is advised to limit the amount of fat sucked to 2 liters / intervention.

What are the possible side effects / complications?

The most common side effects are swelling, bruising and pain. Both the swelling and bruising usually disappears in 2-4 weeks after surgery. The pain after Liposuction is usually regarded as moderate. The larger the area where that fat was sucked the greater the pain.

What happens after liposuction?

Immediately after the surgery the treated area will be covered with large bandage that you should bear up to 3 or 4 weeks. Stitches are removed after 7 days from the surgery.

When can go back to work after the surgery?

If the surgery was not so large, you can go home on the same day of the surgery. A moderate pain felt in the areas of operation afterwards. You can begin to work after a week depending on how physically demanding your work is.

When can I start exercising again?

Exercise can be resumed in 2-3 weeks after a small liposuction, and 4-5 weeks after a major one.
